String Choices

What do I use?

Below is a list of strings that I commonly stock as standard and string with regularly (though I have loads more, including natural gut). I have my favourites, though not everybody will like the same strings that I do.

I have provided my own personal scoring system per string, based on my experience using and feedback from players. The important thing is to work out which string suits you best.

In squash, the two main manufacturers are Tecnifibre and Ashaway. Technifibre is a very popular choice on the PSA, and tends to allow for a little more power, along with fantastic bite on the ball. Ashaway are generally very good strings for touch players, offering a braided/grippy surface which enables the player to put plenty of cut/spin on the ball.

For tennis, there are many choices of strings, with lots of players opting for a hybrid set up  - with stronger, poly strings in the mains which allow for good control and spin and softer multifilament/gut strings in the crosses which provide power and comfort. Natural gut is considered to be the best feeling string available, with great power due to it's elasticity, however it is expensive and doesn't like extreme weather conditions or moisture! I can order on request though.
